The selfless woman who is trending on social media after she walked over 17 km to donate to victims of Cyclone Idai has finally been identified as Gogo Magombo.
Gogo Magombo was born Plaxedes Dilon and is a widow who earns her living selling second-hand clothes in Mbare. We have a problem these days. A lot of people, especially Christians, think pastors are the only ones that should be helped,” she said. “They believe that giving should only be done to those who are in their religious circles. Gogo Magombo has been in the headlines twice now. First for walking from her home in Mbare (erroneously referred to as Highfields in an earlier post) to Highlands Presbyterian Church in order to donate to Cyclone Idai victim.
She then made worldwide headlines again after billionaire businessman Strive Masiyiwa was so touched by her selfless nature and her desire to help others that he vowed to build her a house of her choice in any location in Harare as well as a monthly stipend of US$1000 per month for the rest of her days.
