Elections in Cameroon: The Demands of The Sawa People

With the senatoriales of March 2018 - the Legislatives and Municipals of September 2018, the Region of the littoral - more precisely the indigenous people sawa is again at the crossroads.

Did you realize that you are less and less in the political sphere - where are the SAWA on the lists of political parties in senatorial elections in their own region, the Littoral? On the other hand, only the allogeneic identity is recognized and represented. We have nothing against them on the contrary. They are close - neighbors. They are compatriots.

The Municipal Councilors of the 10 Regions of Cameroon are expected to vote on March 25 for the Senators elections. This consultation, which is a consultation of the terroirs, must allow the recognition of the cultural identity of each ethnic group - each people, especially the initial stake of regional development.
Elections in Cameroon: The Demands of The Sawa People
While the Constitutional Council has just legitimized the lists of political parties, for the Littoral Region, we find that indigenous people are not represented in their own region - unlike other regions! The Constitutional Council comes to endorse the power of the non-indigenous, both of them comforting each other in the refusal to recognize the place of the indigenous sawa and system so that nothing changes in the Littoral Region.

For us, SAWA, these elections are also those of a representation of the ethnic groups, especially the ethnic minorities, a real policy that remains to be done, which recognizes and accepts the autonomous development of the Regions and their identity, and thus puts a term to maintain them under perfusion,

Considering that the majority of indirectly elected Senators vote only in accordance with the instructions of their national parties,

Considering that the sawa community has been rejected in all debates,

Considering that the inalienable right to the protection of ethnic minorities is not not applied in the Littoral Region, even though the Cameroon constitution of 1996 advocates this right for the Nation "(PREAMBLE: THE CAMEROONIAN PEOPLE: the State ensures the protection of minorities and preserves the rights of the indigenous populations in accordance with the law; "

Considering that the successive policies of the State of Cameroon and administrative Region of the Littoral have the effect you want to delete the identity of the sawa people, is simply a" denial. "

Maintaining the lists as they are in the Littoral region is discrimination, these senatorial elections prevent the SAWA, recognized as an ethnic minority, from living politically on their ancestral territory.

The indispensable sincerity of the result of the ballot boxes is called into question. It is fundamental that the Republic of Cameroon fulfill the commitments it solemnly made through the 1996

Constitution . The Constitution of the Republic of Cameroon of 1996 enshrines the protection of ethnic minorities.

The Constitutional Council is opposed to the protection of ethnic minorities, not protecting or promoting the rights of the Sáva community. He flouts the values

we defend, namely the recognition and defense of our ethnic minority, the sawa community.

Since the 1960s these rights are denied: occupation, violence, annexation, apartheid ... are the daily life of our community, of a whole people, THE SAWA PEOPLE (Nkongsamba, Yabassi, Loum, Mbanga, Batanga, Douala, etc.) under the gaze, at best embarrassed, the worst accomplice of the Republic.

For more than 20 years, more specifically, since the "Sawa marches" in 1996, the SAWA call for recognition of their history and rights. Their right to existence on their land.

Without this recognition of indigenous identity as a fundamental pillar of common destiny, it will not be possible to share a peaceful, balanced, just and equitable future for all communities in the Coastal Region. It is therefore essential that the identity of the sawa community, associated and / or twinned with all other cultures, especially the region's matrix, be recognized before the 2018 presidential election in order to have a present and a future, just and shared. !

Time is running out! Thanks to your involvement, Sawa and friends of the Sawa people, we will go and defend this identity with the President of the Republic of Cameroon.

Cameroonian citizens, defenders of ethnic rights, lovers of freedom and friends of the Sawa people, together, say: that's enough, it's time for the SAWA to recover their rights! It is time for the women, men and children of Sawa to live their culture freely.

The elections of 2018: Senatorial, Legislative, Municipal and Presidential must be the time of hope!

On behalf of the ARPS association and all the friends of the sawa community, we denounce the failure of the Republic of Cameroon in its constitutional prerogatives relating to the respect of recognized ethnic minorities, especially of the community sawa and denounce the organization of these senatorial elections in the littoral region.

Because the Cameroonian state does not respect its ethnic minority sawa on its own historical territory, because it overrides its own texts in the same way that it violates the customary law sawa, we appeal to your support to defend our approach .

The only objective of the ARPS association is that the community sawa be respected as such, that its rights are no longer violated, especially, to implement in fact the texts of the 1996 Constitution on the protection of ethnic minorities, the identity of the sawa community that is absent in Cameroon's development policies. It is a question of restoring a right balance with the signs of identity sawa, without a priori and that within the framework of the common destiny of the Republic.

The sawa community does not have to have fewer rights and duties than any other ethnic group. If the notion of the diversity of peoples in Cameroon makes sense to you, help us so that our grievances can be heard.

Indeed, the ARPS is an apolitical association whose object is only the defense of the identity sawa, but in all the aspects of the daily life: political, economic, social and cultural.

We ask all SAWA of voting age, to register on the electoral lists - especially their participation to be in all lists of political parties and all elections!

They dismissed us, making us forget that our ANCESTORS built this country! (Reminder: the first capital of Cameroon, Douala-Bonabèri)
