La Republique: Power outage in Yaounde caused by pole collapse

For the past three weeks, high tension electricity cables have been littering on the ground near Nyom in the Yaoundé 1st District some 25 minutes from the presidential palace, not far from the place known as Eniet.

These wires transporting high voltage electricity fell after a violent rain which is frequent during this period in Yaoundé.

Local residents told our Yaoundé city reporter that they have called Eneo (the electricity distribution company) to find a solution to the collapse of the high-voltage wires, which has led to severe power cut across the area concerned.

“It’s been over three weeks since we called the Eneo technicians. No team has been dispatched to the field, despite the many calls,” noted the Quarter Head.

Cameroon Intelligence Report was reliably informed that on the phone, Eneo technicians, demand fuel, prior to any movement.

The Nyom incident reportedly caused the roof of a house to go up in smoke beneath the sparks of the high tension line. For the time being, no loss of life has been recorded.

Installed less than a year ago, the high voltage was not able to keep up, in part, because of the quality of the pole.
