Trouble as ZIMRA officials ordered to declare assets

BEITBRIDGE- The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) has in what is suspected to be a lifestyle audit ordered all its employees to declare their assets starting from items worth $500 upwards, it has been established.

Officers are required to detail their belongings and submit to the authority’s human resources department form HR/F 13 HR Issue 1 Version: 1 released on May 24 this year.

“You are required to make a full disclosure of all your assets of significant value,” reads part of the asset declaration form.

It should be signed under oath before a commissioned officer or an attorney at law.
“Some of our colleagues had to come back from their leave to complete this requirement,” an officer stationed at Beitbridge border post said.

The form which the Mirror has laid its hands on also requires officers to disclose shareholding, if any, and directorship with companies.

“Details of shareholding and directorship of the business to which the employee has an interest,” states a column of the three-paged document which ZIMRA says is a minimum guideline which employees can expand on if they have more assets than the space provided.

The form, so much similar to the abandoned Zanu PF leadership code which demanded leadership to declare their assets to curb corruption, further instructs employees to continuously update the organisation of new assets they may have acquired.

“It is important to have workers make such declarations and it would be more welcome if our leaders make similar declarations. They focus on the weak,” said a ZIMRA officer who asked not to be named.
