Viola Beach's album is finally out but it's not the record they planned to release

The debut album by Viola Beach is finally released, featuring songs recorded before all four band members were killed.

The group and their manager died when their vehicle plunged off a bridge in Sweden in February.

But the album is not the one Viola Beach planned to release.

It's a collection of tracks put together during their short career, many of which were destined for an EP rather than a full-length release.

Viola Beach's album is finally out but it's not the record they planned to release
In late 2015 the band performed a live session for BBC Music Introducing, which perfectly showcased their tight melodies and uplifting tunes.

The band scored a number 11 hit with their single Swings And Waterslides following a social media campaign, which gained support from Noel Gallagher, Ian Brown and Kasabian.

The album's getting a lot of praise from the critics, but there is obviously a massive slice of sadness that this isn't the band's finished product.

The indie four-piece were made up of Kris Leonard, River Reeves, Tomas Lowe and Jack Dakin.

River's brother, Fin Reeves, said the songs on the album were about living life to the full.

Speaking on BBC Breakfast, he said: "I think they'd be thrilled - I think they are out there somewhere jumping up and down and just going 'Yeah, go on guys, get people to listen to our music'.

"The whole thing about Viola Beach... they were just having the time of their lives and River was all about enjoying himself and living life to the full.

"When he got into Viola Beach and met those lads that was him at his best."

Some of the biggest names in music are behind critically acclaimed posthumous albums.
Michael Jackson - Xscape

Michael's 2014 release Xscape was met with initial scepticism but with some of the biggest names in music working on the record, it turned out to be a pop triumph.

Timbaland, Rodney Jerkins and Stargate were among the producers, while Justin Timberlake contributed vocals to hit track, Love Never Felt So Good.

It was Michael's best single in years.
Amy Winehouse - Lioness: Hidden Treasures

A collection of Amy demos was released in 2011 and impressed critics and fans alike with the quality of the songs and her voice.

It also spawned the single Our Day Will Come, which still sounds great on radio playlists to this day.
The Notorious BIG - Life After Death

One of the biggest stars in hip-hop of all time, Biggie only achieved global fame after his death and did so with hit after hit.

Hypnotize, Mo Money Mo Problems and Sky's The Limit were all huge tunes from his multi-platinum album, Life After Death.
