Cameroon: Divisional Officers Ordered to Return to Troubled Anglophone Regions

Administrative officials fleeing from the violence in the North West and South West regions of Cameroon have been ordered to return to the duty posts or face severe sanctions.

In this light, the Minister of Territoral Administration Paul Atanga Nji has been ordered to reinstall all the Divisional Officers in the North West and South West regions, a confidential note from the Secretary General at the Presidency of the Republic Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh reads.

In the note, the Secretary General at the Presidency Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh says on “the high instructions” of the Head of State, the DOs will be reinstalled while new structures to host those burnt as a result of the violence.

Administrative authorities have been targets for separatist fighters since the escalation of the crisis in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon.

The Divisional Officer of the Menchum Valley, Lokimbe Derek Nwanjo was released last month after spending days in captivity.

The Divisional Officer of Batibo Marcel Namata Diteng was the first Administrative Officer to be kidnapped on February 11, 2018 with the government later revealing in June that he had been killed by his abductors.
