Cameroon: Seperatist Leaders Refuse to Talk to Investigators

Seven months after Cameroon deported Sisiku Ayuk and forty-six other separatist leaders, reports say are now refusing to co-operate with state investigators.

Going by the reports, proceedings instituted against the separatist leaders by the State of Cameroon are still at the stage of judicial inquiry.

Which makes it possible to determine the existence or not of an infringement with the law and to bring useful elements for the purpose of the trial. It is only at the end of this stage that Sisiku Ayuk Tabe and his companions were expected to be presented before the government commissioner for the opening of the trial. 

However the dragged on case has pushed the leaders to remain mute which according to Barrister Assira, may block the investigation indefinitely.

Meantime, Sisiku Ayuk Tabe, Fidelis Che, Egbe Ogock, Wilfried Tassang, Shufai Blaise, Nfor Ngala Nfor and Augustine Awasum, are still detained at the State Secretariat for Defense (SED). The defense counsel has strongly contested their stay at SED, citing terrible conditions.

The defense counsel therefore expects the government commissioner to review the evidence obtained so far and open a trial or release Sisiku and his companions. The lawyers applied to the Mfoundi High Court on August 9 for Habeas corpus.
