Lundi Tyamara recovering from stomach TB - management

After rumours that gospel sensation Lundi Tyamara had died dominated social media network on Friday, his family decided to set the record straight about the state of his health.

This is the first time the Tyamara family has spoken out about his health.

According to a statement released by his recording and management company, M&E Media, Tyamara is alive and recovering at home following a health scare.

The statement said the star was diagnosed with stomach tuberculosis and a liver problem on December 27. He also needed a blood transfusion.

His health issues started after a trip to China in November. When he returned he didn't receive medical attention because the family believed it was the Asian climate and diet that affected him negatively.

"We got concerned in early December when he had shortness of breath and we rushed him to the doctor. He was subsequently hospitalised at a Johannesburg facility," said a family member.

"He was discharged a few days later. He spent his 38th birthday in hospital.

"When he didn't improve, he went back to hospital on December 27. He was in a bad shape. He has since become stable and shows encouraging signs of improvement as he gains more strength.

"His sisters Babalwa and Boniswa Tyamara are in Johannesburg to give their support and that has helped speed up Lundi's recovery."

His family further stated how the unfounded rumours of his death affected them.

"It's disheartening when, as a family, we hear unfounded rumours of Lundi's 'death' when he is on the mend. We would also like to condemn the circulation of an image of Lundi in hospital that has been doing the rounds on social media.

"We ask for respect and prayers for Lundi who has given so much of himself with his God-given talent of music."
