Silva Pours Scorn On Samaita

EX-DYNAMOS coach Paulo Jorge Silva has taken a personal dig at his former assistant Lloyd Mutasa, whom he says will only lead the side to relegation as he has no capacity to lead the Harare soccer giants.

The Portuguese mentor sensationally reasserted his claims of sabotage during his short stint at the Glamour, Boys where he was fired for poor results.

Silva, who often quarrelled with both his assistant Mutasa and goalkeepers coach Gift "Umbro" Muzadzi, yesterday charged that the former Dynamos and Tanganda midfielder was responsible for his ouster at the Glamour Boys.

In a likely case of sour grapes, the Portuguese expatriate, whose coaching credentials were also heavily questioned, said DeMbare should not make the mistake of giving Mutasa the job on a full-time basis after his five-match probation.

"As long as Dynamos are coached by Mutasa and his blunt backroom staff, I tell you for sure that it will be relegated this year.

"In two years' time, the team will be playing in Division Two and even Division Three. That guy (Mutasa) belongs to the old school football type. He is not a modern coach. Just imagine a guy as old as him talking to four or five players, whom he calls his, to under perform so that I can get fired," he said.

Silva was fired at Dynamos after winning only one game, drawing two and losing two to leave the club reeling deep in the bottom half of the table with five points from as many games.

He acknowledged Dynamos are a big institution but charged that the system is laced with some unruly elements, especially in the technical department.

He said that fact alone is bad enough to see the 1998 CAF Champions League finalists playing in the unfashionable Division One league next season.

"I respect (the executive's president, Kenny) Mubaiwa and (secretary-general Webster) Chikengezha but they are very unfortunate to be heading a system which has a primitive spirit. I can tell you that if the system remains, then this institution called Dynamos will crumble very quickly.

"There is a lot of confusion, especially in the technical team. Just imagine, I gave Takesure Chinyama $50 to go to the hospital because I believed in his capabilities but they say I am the one who pushed him out from Dynamos.

"At the moment Dynamos can only beat weaker teams but if they sweep away the entire technical bench, then they may finish the season maybe in the top eight. That is the best they can do now," he said.

Silva also tipped Highlanders to win the league title as he hailed the 2006 champions for having a well-dignified system that allows coach Elroy Akbay to be totally in charge of the game in the field of play.

"I think Highlanders will land the title. They have good players who are loyal to their coach, whom I must say has proven to be the best in the Premiership. If Highlanders, for some reasons, fail to win the title, then I will put my money on Harare City. The team has the best players in the country; they have two good players for every position. This is the only team that can give Highlanders enough competition," said Silva.

Since the Portuguese coach's departure, Dynamos have managed to post a single 1-0 win over Tsholotsho in Bulawayo in a match fullback Ocean Mushure converted from the spot-kick.
