Second Suspect Arrested for Teacher's Murder

Yesterday, Police Officers from the Umlazi K9 Unit and Durban Protection and Security Services held a joint operation at Isipingo as they followed up on intelligence received of a suspect wanted for murder and kidnapping. 

Their investigations led them to a bus stop at Isipingo where they pounced on the suspect. He was wanted for a murder and kidnapping case that took place at Wembezi last month. He is expected to appear in the Estcourt Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 3 May 2016.

On 11 March 2016 the deceased, Raymond Mabizela (47) who was a school teacher at Bergville was allegedly lured by his girlfriend, Fikelephi Ngubane (28) to Wembezi. It is suspected that while he was at Wembezi, he was kidnapped by another boyfriend of Fikelephi and he disappeared. The teacher was than reported as missing and on 24 March 2016.

His decomposed body was found covered by a carpet in a donga at Wembezi. His vehicle was found burnt in the area. A case of murder and kidnapping was opened at Wembezi police station. Following a thorough investigation by Detectives the first suspect, Fikelephi Ngubane was arrested. She appeared in the Estcourt Magistrates Court and the case was remanded until 6 May 2016 for a bail application.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended police for responding so speedily to the murder and progressively with the subsequent investigation.

 "It is a sad reality that most of our murders are committed by those the victims love and trust the most. Incidents like these are unnecessary, cruel and inhumane. We will do everything that is within our control to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book," she said.
