Will Cameroon Really Host The 2019 Africa Cup of Nations?

Algeria has announced that it is ready to apply for the hosting of the African Cup of Nations AFCOM-2019 in the event that the African Football Confederation (CAF) withdraws the organization in Cameroon.

The President of the Algerian Federation (FAF), Kheireddine Zetchi noted recently that “We are following the case of a possible relocation with attention. If an opportunity arises, Algeria will be a candidate for the organization of the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCOM-2019.”

Algeria had earlier submitted its candidature for the organization of the 2017 AFCOM, before the continental body decided to entrust it to Gabon. Cameroon Intelligence Report understands CAF is seriously considering relocating the next Africa Cup of Nations due to Cameroon’s delay in building infrastructure.

The AFCOM 2021 and 2023 will take place respectively in Côte d’Ivoire and Guinea, although here again a change is possible after Zambia recently signaled its intention to host the 2021 edition against the wishes of the Côte d ‘ Ivoire.

A source deep within the Cameroon Football Federation observed that the country is at the mercy of Biya and his appointees and things are falling apart.

The Algerian FA boss reportedly held fruitful discussions with the new CAF President Ahmad Ahmad on the sidelines of the 67th Congress of FIFA held in Manama, Bahrain on replacing the sick man of Africa in 2019.
