Biya Orders Surveillance Cameras Be Installed in All Ten Regions of Cameroon

Head of State Paul Biya has ordered that surveillance cameras be installed in all ten regions of the country, according to information in the columns of the Évolution newspaper (journal Évolution).

The daily in that report confirms alafnet.com reports on June 4,2017 that President Biya signed a decree empowering the Minister of the Economy, Planning and Territory Development to Signed a FCFA 45.9 billion commercial loan agreement with the Bank of China to finance Phase I of the project,intended to extend urban video surveillance system surveillance through out the country .

The pilot phase of the project which was Implemented in January 2014 in Yaoundé, is expected to see the installation of 1,500 cameras and communication relays in the 10 regional capitals as well as in 7 other strategic areas of the border, notably in the region Of the Far North where Boko Haram assaults have been consistent.

In mid-February, the Chinese firm Huawei Technologies and the Cameroonian government signed a contract to install the intelligent system, following negotiations dating back to 2009. 350 video cameras were to be installed in the main arteries of the city. City of Yaoundé.

By this presidential decree , the surveillance cameras expected to be installed in all 10 regions of Cameroon.
