Manyuchi Arrives to a Hero's Welcome

ELECTRIFYING! Just this one word aptly describes the atmosphere at the Harare International Airport when wonderboy Charles Manyuchi touched down aboard an Emirates flight at 5:10pm yesterday.

The arrival of the poor-boy-turned-superstar had the who-is-who in the sports sector present at the airport to welcome him. They ranged from fellow pugilists who could not manage a single win in their careers, coaches and administrators.

Drum-beating fans, transported to the airport courtesy of Manyuchi's local sponsor, Mr T35, drowned the airport in song.

Then came the kilometre-long convoy of cars from the airport that could have done well with a police escort, especially given the rush hour in which the short trip into the central business district was undertaken.

It took a whole hour to reach Rainbow Towers Hotel where a banquet awaited an ambassador who, like the rating of the hospitality facility he was whisked to, had put up a five-star performance.

It now remains to be seen how fat a beast the nation will slaughter for the industrious brand ambassador, although it will only take a blind marketing department of any corporate entity to ignore the mileage associated with this brand called Manyuchi.

His principal sponsor in the country, Mr T35, have already made a worthy contribution and from the look of things Manyuchi could be riding in car number three from the sponsors, a Honda CVR latest model.
