Standard Bank to Facilitate Business Growth in Eastern, Southern Africa

Dar es Salaam — Standard Bank, the parent firm for Stanbic Bank Tanzania, is undertaking an initiative that seeks to facilitate business development between its clients from East and South Africa regions.

It will do so through conferences in which clients from the two regions will be invited. One of such conferences was held in Nairobi last week where 70 of the bank's clients from Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Zambia, Malawi and South Africa took advantage of networking opportunities in a guided and informative environment.

"This is the first of a series of inter-Africa trade conferences aimed at facilitating business development. It underlines our commitment as Standard Bank to create effective partnerships for our clients in the region and across the continent," the bank's head of commercial banking for the rest of Africa, Dr Manessah Alagbaoso, said in a statement made available to The Citizen yesterday.

The conferences provide delegates with an overview of commerce and industry in East Africa and presented opportunities for access to the market and business development.

Dr Alagbaoso said it was critical for Standard Bank to create additional value for business banking clients by assisting them in identifying services they could access as well as aiding them to match them (the services) with the required expertise while providing banking solutions.

"We are committed to the East Africa region as indicated by our established presence in Kenya, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and recent expansion into Ethiopia. Our sector expertise and in-depth local knowledge enable us to partner with our clients to help Africa's progress," said Dr Alagbaoso.

He said the landscape in East Africa had changed in that the region now has improved governance, responsive regulatory measures and a stronger infrastructural environment.

These factors create opportunities for savvy investors who are prepared to make long-term business commitments within the region.
